FIS Rules of conductSki Rules of Conduct![]() 1. HELMET All skiers and snowboarders under 14 must wear a protective helmet 2. RESPECT FOR OTHERS A skier or snowboarder must behave in such a way that he/she does not endanger others due to his/her behaviour or to his/her equipment. 3. CONTROL OF SPEED A skier or snowboarder must move in control. He/She must adapt his speed and manner of skiing to his/her personal ability and to the prevailing conditions of terrain, snow and weather as well as to the density of traffic. 4. CHOICE OF ROUTE A skier or snowboarder coming from behind must choose his/her route in such a way that he/she does not endanger skiers or snowboarders ahead. 5. OVERTAKING A skier or snowboarder may overtake another skier or snowboarder above or below and to the right or to the left provided that he/she leaves enough space for the overtaken skier or snowboarder to make any voluntary or involuntary movement. 6. CROSSING A skier or snowboarder entering a marked run, starting again after stopping or moving upwards on the slopes must look up and down the slopes that he/she can do so without endangering him/herself or others. At crossing skiers must give way to those coming from the right or in conformity with directions of signs. Moreover, in Italy the same principle applies on the slopes as on the roads, that those coming from the right have the right of way at a crossing. 7. STOPPING ON THE SKI SLOPE Unless absolutely necessary, a skier or snowboarder must avoid stopping on the slopes in narrow places or where visibility is restricted. After a fall in such a place, a skier or snowboarder must move clear of the slope as soon as possible. 8. AID At accidents every skier or snowboarder is duty bound to assist. Moreover every skier or snowboarder and witness, whether a responsible party or not, must exchange names and addresses following an accident. 9. CLIMBING AND DESCENDING ON FOOT Climbing or descending on foot must keep to the side of the slope. In Italy is prohibited to walk on the slopes, unless absolutely necessary. 10. OFF-PISTE AND MOUNTAINEERING - SKIING The lift owner is not responsible of accident which may occur beyond his ski area boundary. (Law 1051, Abstract from FIS Safety Rules) |
